What changed, and when.
A design system that is in use changes. This page records each change that alters what someone following the guide should do, newest first.
1.0 — October 2026
The first published version: the paper system, written down. It replaces the system the previous site was built on.
- Identity
- The H mark confirmed as the only logo. The seal reserved for signing documents, and removed from closing sections.
- Colour
- A cream sheet, one warm-brown ink and tan. Pigment kept for the four volumes and the seal.
- Typography
- Asar for headings, Geist for text, Geist Mono for labels. Three display sizes and no others.
- Paper
- Grain, ruling, wash and perforation defined as the four things the page is made of.
- Surfaces
- The tinted panel made the default. Cards no longer react to hover.
- Controls
- The key introduced as the primary action. Every control set to one height.
- Volumes
- The four covers rebuilt as dyed cloth, in four layers, with a single dial for wear.
- Motion
- Five entrance mechanisms replaced by one. Loops rationed to three.
- This guide
- Published, with search, copyable values and a downloadable asset pack.
Before 1.0
The studio's earlier identity set paper against glass: an ivory page with a dark terminal screen resting on it, a persimmon orange for every call to action, and a grotesque sans for headings. It was retired with the redesign. What it left behind is the idea that physical things sit on the page while the page itself stays flat — and the seal, the kanji on the volumes and the pressed feel of the primary button, each restyled into the present system.
How versions work
- A whole number
- A rule changes meaning, or something is removed. Work made under the old version may need revisiting.
- A decimal
- Something is added, or a rule is made more specific. Existing work is still correct.
- No change in number
- A correction to wording, a new example, a fixed link.
The version is shown beside the mark on every page. If you are working from a copy of the asset pack, the version it was exported from is in its read-me.
